Main responsibilities

The material handler ensures the proper organization and constant optimization of the large inventory. The Material Handler works closely with the Storekeeper to ensure the flow of materials required for production and/or equipment to be delivered by the shipping department. He/she is always looking for ways to save time and/or space, while respecting deadlines and quality standards.

Job description

– Develops the location plan for the large inventory, has it approved by his/her supervisor, implements it and keeps it up to date, while ensuring that products of the same category are grouped together and that what is most often used is placed close to the inventory door.
– Maintains an up-to-date inventory count of all items in the bulk inventory in collaboration with the Storekeeper.
– Carries out ad hoc controls of the quantities in inventory for an item or a section.
– Manages the receipt of containers.

– Verifies material and ensures that it is in good condition and that the quantities received agree with the quantities ordered using the appropriate documentation.
– Participates in the management of the quarantine area for defective or counterfeit products.
– Turns over the documentation received with the containers (delivery note, packing list, etc.) to the storekeeper.
– Places the products and equipment received in their respective places in the inventory.

Daily tasks

– Accumulates paper and cardboard for recycling in designated racks.
– Accumulates empty cable reels in designated areas.
– Accumulates empty pallets in designated area.
– Stores wooden shipping boxes in the designated area.
– Ensures that the inventory corridor and aisles are clean and safe for the forklift to pass.

– Ensures that the shop corridors are clear and safe.
– Returns blue parts bins to the designated area.
– Ensures that unused cable reels are returned to inventory by the wiring department.
– Ensures the management of cable scrap in order to avoid waste.
– Participates in keeping emergency exits clear and accessible.

Weekly tasks

– Empties paper and cardboard racks into the recycling container.
– Lists returnable cable reels and notifies purchaser to arrange pickup.

– Disassembles obsolete wooden carrying cases and accumulates pieces in designated area.
– Empty Recycan cans, change bags and ensure cleanliness.

Monthly tasks

– Manages the exchange of metal recycling bins.
– Communicates with Recycan to arrange for collection of can bags.

Tasks as needed

– Performs quality control on obsolete or discontinued equipment in order to liquidate them.
– Assists the metal shop in the storage of aluminum sheets and extrusions.
– Answers the loading dock door if no one is present to do so.
– Takes boxes and pallets of merchandise to be received in the receiving department.

Tasks to be performed in downtime

– Disassembles non-designated cable reels and places the pieces in predetermined locations.
– Repairs damaged pallets that are salvageable.
– Solidifies wooden transport boxes that need to be preserved.
– Provides assistance to the various departments of the shop through the production coordinator.

Required qualifications

– Training as a forklift operator or DEC in GOP or other relevant discipline
– 1 year of experience in a similar position, ideally related to products in the arts and performing arts (asset)
– Valid driver’s license
– Fluency in spoken and written French
– Computer skills: MS Office, ERP
